 Train Tracks Hat  $5.00

 Turned Edge Hat  $5.00

The Rules (a non-pattern):

1 - Cables will begin life as a clump of K4, with considerable amount of space between clumps which will be an even and consistent number of purl stitches, worked in the round.

(my hat started with a band of (K4, P4) x12 on a 5mm circular.. and after four rounds, I started using every second clump of K4s for the application of these rules, phasing out the other K4s as they were crossed over and turned into more purl background)

2 - Each clump will separate as follows:

The first K will become a right-travelling, every-round stitch.

The second K will become a right-travelling, every-other-round stitch.

The third K will become a left-travelling, every-other-round stitch.

The fourth K will become a left-travelling, every-round stitch.

(this makes me think of a pattern done by acrobatic planes, where four planes fly together, then branch off in different directions)

3 - The first series of cable crossings (when the every-round cables meet) can be either left- or right-crossing, but all cables must cross in the same direction.

4 - All future cable crossings must relate to the previous crossing - if the strand was last held to the front, on the next crossing it will be held to the back, and vice versa.

5 - If something happens to create a situation where two cables are about to meet, but hold different rules of movement that are then causing some awkwardness, that crossing shall be fudged, but fudged consistently for the whole round.

6 - Decreases will be diguised in the movement of the cables - a right-travelling cable can become K2Tog, or a left-travelling cable can become SSK.  All decreases will be made in a consistent way.

7 - In order to keep decent visual spacing as the shaping occurs and the total number of stitches decreases, some cable crossings will instead merge and continue to travel as a single cable.  All mergings and continued paths and rates of travel will be made in a consistent way.

Any questions?  *grin*  I thought I’d give this as a freebie for you to play with, rather than trying to make it a paid pattern!  I’d love to see what sort of beautiful cabled creations you come up with!

It looks like your Texture Sampler Blocks has an error in it. You can’t download it.

I’ve removed this pattern until I can work out the glitches in the download link.  Thanks for letting me know!

I’m enjoying your podcast a lot. I can’t wait for my next visit Vancouver so I can check out the yarn shops you mention. I would be interested in being a test knitter for you - I make charity hats frequently (chemo caps for Fred Hutch & premie hats).

I listened to your podcasts while I was on the train today from Chicago to Schenectady (while I was knitting, of course). I enjoyed them very much and am looking forward to hearing more! Thanks.

I was disappointed to see a couple of hats when I looked for your patterns.

I have bought from Knitwear Architects in the past and was surprised that it no longer existed as I wanted some more cotton. I looked though your site and expected to find some kind of “Knitwear” pattern as I am not a great knitter but I found this way of knitting good for me. Are you going to open a store?

I have moved to Powell River and wonder when I come down for the Christmas holidays if you will be at one of the stores to assist me with my purchase.

Thank you

Susan
